Parry Creek Farm is the perfect place to base yourself and see the many different tourist attractions of the Eastern Kimberley. For those travelling the Gibb River Road, there are numerous highlights along the way. Click to go straight to the photo gallery.
It is also an excellent spot to explore some of Australia's best land-based saltwater barramundi fishing. The 'secret' spots for the big barra are on the King River and the Pentecost River. With Mambi Island boat ramp only 25km away you're at the gateway to the saltwater section of the mighty Ord River.
Gibb River Road
The northern end of the Gibb River Road is accessable for many day trips, including El Questro, Emma Gorge, Home Valley Lookout (spectacular), the Pentecost River and the Karunjie Track. These are all easy day trips from Parry Creek Farm.
We are also a starting point for the journey along the Gibb River Road, and a wonderful end to a spectacular journey that takes in the awesome stopovers along the Gibb River Road. Be prepared, you will need loose cool sun smart clothing, personal medication, enough drinking water and food, take enough to cover emergencies, spare tyres and comfortable shoes/boots suitable for hiking the many gorges you will see on your travels. Also and most important a camera to capture the memories along the way.
Things to Do at Parry Creek
Parry Creek Farm itself offers many activities, bird watching and photography are popular, there is also fishing on the Ord River, ask at the office when you arrive, or there are charter tours available.
Nature walks are a must at Parry's. Follow the loop down to the water holes at the back of the property and across the creek bed to the floodplains where you'll see many boabs, some with modern day carvings. You will also see the remains of the old Hall's Creek drovers track and cobblestone buildings. If you’re patient you may spot our resident crocodiles or a barramundi.
Relaxation is our specialty at the resort. Stay close to camp and relax in a sun-lounge by the pool. With a cold drink in hand, you can simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
Birdlife
Bird watching is our most popular activity at Parry Creek Farm, with some of the species of birds found here being quite rare. There is a bird list available with over 200 species listed. Ask at reception for a copy.
From the enclosed deck of the elevated cabins or boardwalk, look over the picturesque billabong and its lilies. Many species of birds nest amongst the reeds at the billabong’s edge and are best spotted in the early morning or at dusk.
One bird enthusiast reported sighting 73 species of birds in two days at Parry Creek Farm.
The flood plains around the area are home to many species of water birds. During the wet season the flood plains become the nesting grounds for magpie geese and many species of migratory birds
Enthusiasts should also visit the world famous Marlgu Billabong bird hide set in the famous Ramsar wetlands of Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve.
Within 30 km of Parry Creek Farm
Grotto Waterfall and nature walk is 25km from the Parry Creek turnoff. Take the 140 steps down to water that is believed to be 400m. Best time to visit is after the wet season.
Old Hall's Creek Gold Rush Track is for 4WD vehicles only. The track starts at Parry Creek Farm and is 13km long. It was built using prison labour during the Hall's Creek Gold Rush and was used by miners to push their carts and barrows to the gold fields. The rocks used to pave the road can still be seen in places.
Crocodile Hole is 10km along the Old Hall's Creek Gold Rush Track; it's true to its name, so don't go swimming! You'll often see crocs sunning themselves.
Fantastic country for bird watching and photography.
Wyndham has a Museum in the old Courthouse building in the historic port area. It contains some fascinating memorabilia, journals and photos of Wyndham in times gone by. The Museum is open in the dry season, April to October.

Diggers Rest Station have well trained stock horses available for one, two or three hour rides and for full day rides. Try their very special Sunset Trail Ride. An experienced guide accompanies all rides and all levels of riding, and all ages are welcome.
